“What ya readin’?” I asked as I breezed by my friend who was lunching outside. “Bonhoeffer,” was her reply, “…so sad.”
Yes. It is a sad story, but it has a wonderul message and he was a fabulous man. (You should check him out when you have time)
As I drove off, I was grateful. That I live in America. That I am healthy. That I have clothes, a home and food on my table. That I have freedom to think, believe and do as I truly wish – for the most part.
But those perks of America just don’t seem to be enough for some folks. And I have to admit, it really irks me.
Ever been around someone who is negative? Of course you have. And when we are, we usually feel like running for the nearest exit. In fairness though, I too have an attitude some days that can chase folks off if I am not careful.
The negative people I am referring to, however, just don’t seem to find the good or the upside to anything. Even when you point something out, they almost argue with you to prove that the sky is falling. Or at least, they inform you that it will within time. You just wait!
What we think about spins around and processes in our minds. In time, those thoughts then take action. Do you follow that? If I chew on a thought like say, “Oh, I don’t feel well.” You can bet by noon, I will be quite sick.
However, if I want to lose weight and I focus on exercise, I will find myself beginning to make some time for it. Because it will be on my mind. If I am determined to have a good day, then I most likely will. If I want to be nice to people, and think about ways that I can be kind and thoughtful, it’s going to happen. I think you understand.
I found a few wise words to back up my point. See what you think:
“For as he thinks within himself, so he is” (Proverbs 23:7).
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” – Winston Churchill
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute . . . dwell on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

If those words don’t help…try being grateful. For something. Anything. You’ll be amazed at how it can turn your day, no your life, around.
Just my thoughts on this very lovely fall day.
