I’ll Fly Away

Description #1: I grew up in a home with music. My father was a self-taught musician who made sure I learned to sing harmony at a young age. I remember sitting on the side of my bed, he with his ukelele, singing harmony while I tried to hold onto the melody with my hands over my ears. This was not only a song I grew up with, it was a tune that was always in the roster of the the blue grass group of which he was a member.

Description

Description #2:  They were called the Creepy Critters. Just some guys that knew each other, liked blue grass, gospel songs and more, and would play for free as long as they could give their testimony at the end. They became pretty popular and had to actually decide to quit their jobs or begin saying no to all of the incoming requests. They were family men, so the touring never commenced. For which I am grateful. My dad was the banjo player. He would wear this very tall denim hat inside of which he kept a rubber chicken for the perfect moment. When it was time, the chicken emerged only to be thrown into the unsuspecting audience. The guys in the group were not only funny, they were also just plain fun and talented. I would sit and listen to their rehearsals, and of course, when able, I would attend their performances. I’ll Fly Away was always a crowd favorite. Here, it takes a new twist. I hope you like our version.

I’ll Fly Away was written by Albert E. Brumley in 1929.

Some glad morning when this life is over I’ll fly away
To a home on
God’s celestial shore
I’ll fly away

I’ll fly away
Oh glory I’ll fly away
In the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
I’ll fly away
To a home where joys shall never end
I’ll fly away

I’ll fly away
Oh glory I’ll fly away
In the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away

When the shadows of this life have grown
I’ll fly away
To a home where joys shall never end
I’ll fly away

I’ll fly away
Oh glory I’ll fly away
In the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away

Some glad morning when this life is over

When the shadows of this life have grown
I’ll fly away
Like a bird from these prison bars I’ve flown
I’ll fly away

I’ll fly away
Oh glory I’ll fly away
In the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away I’ll fly away
Oh I’ll fly away Oh glory
I’ll fly away In the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away
